Coil Heaters

      General information

Coil Heaters are lightweight, highly compact heating elements capable of delivering very high power output whilst requiring relatively little space, providing uniform heat transfer within a precisely controlled temperature range. Thanks to their excellent mouldability, they are particularly suitable for heating injection nozzles and hot runner manifolds in the plastics industry. Other areas of application include the laboratory sector, packaging machinery and general mechanical engineering.

      Specifications

The coil heater consists of an insulating core wrapped in Ni-Cr 80/20 heating wire and compacted magnesium oxide. The maximum operating temperature is 750 °C at the casing; however, this heat is not transferred to the medium being heated. On request, the coil heater can also be equipped with a thermocouple.

Coil heaters can be manufactured with or without an integrated FeCu-Ni thermocouple in accordance with DIN 43710. A NiCr-Ni thermocouple is also available on request. Coil heaters are generally supplied in a straight, bendable form. However, we recommend that the manufacturer carries out the bending and coiling in accordance with the customer’s drawings.

      Installation and commissioning

Care must be taken during installation to avoid deforming the heating element. Difficult installation conditions should be taken into account at the design stage. The heating elements must only be operated with a suitable temperature control system.

      Storage:

Heating elements must be stored in a dry place at room temperature, as they absorb unwanted moisture during prolonged storage. There is a risk of a short circuit.
